Unconfirmed reports state that UFC is working hard to find Tony Ferguson a replacement opponent, after Khabib Nurmagomedov was pulled from the card, due to unforeseen circumstances. Eddie Alvarez’s camp have allegedly contacted UFC bosses to try to work out a deal.
The former lightweight champion was last seen in the octagon at UFC 205, against Connor McGregor, in which he was defeated. He has not been active since that defeat and is rumoured to step in late notice to face Tony Ferguson.
This would be a perfect opportunity for Eddie Alvarez to gain some respect back, after the lacklustre performance last time out, when he was comprehensively beaten at Madison Sqaure Garden. The fight makes the most sense out of all the other fighters who have been mentioned to replace Khabib.
Will it happen? Eddie is healthy and has been back in training after UFC 205, however it remains to be seen whether Tony Ferguson will accept the fight, against Alvarez on short notice. Eddie is a dangerous fighter who could derail Fergusons plans and ultimately set up a rematch with Mcgegor, with a win over Ferguson.
